One of the current challenges in urban life is social ills and violent behavior of citizens. It is assumed that enabling material well-being, physical growth, the possibility of having a network that is provided in the cities, comfort and safety come true, but the available evidence suggests reverse development process and some of these risky practices and urban insecurity caused by physical conditions and spatial urban design. The main purposes of this study were "the assessment of the relationship between defenseless spaces with urban violence", "recognizing the type of crime in the defenseless spaces", "understanding the physical properties of defenseless spaces", "Understanding defenseless spaces Social Profile", and "typology of violence in Tehran".
The study was conducted based on survey and questionnaires. Dimensions of urban violence in four components of psychological violence, physical violence, economic violence, and social violence were assessed with 28 items. Samples were 400 citizens of Tehran city, which were selected of five metropolitan areas of North, South, East, West, and center. Sample selection was based on quota sampling technique based on the time of presentation spaces of interviewers. The findings show that the incidences of urban violence in urban spaces were not the same and the level of violence in defense spaces lower than defenseless spaces. The hypothesis test showed that the relationship between urban space and sense of security and insecurity shows significant differences among citizens in defenseless and defense spaces. The results also showed some defenseless spaces are potentially receptive to violence because of the social and physical factors and provide a good place for anti-safety and violent activities. The average of violence in different part of the city is validated with significant difference in terms of violence incident.
