A systematic review of research on women's presence in sports stadiums (football stadiums)

Abstract

The presence of women in sports stadiums, especially in countries with specific cultural and social contexts, has always been accompanied by numerous challenges and obstacles. This study aimed to investigate the factors affecting the presence of women in football stadiums, identify the obstacles and challenges ahead, and analyze the consequences of this presence. It seeks to examine the role of cultural, social, legal, and managerial factors in facilitating or limiting the presence of women in sports spaces. The research method is a mixed type (qualitative and quantitative) and was conducted with a systematic review of 24 related studies. The sample population of the study includes experts in the field of sports, sports managers, women interested in attending stadiums, and specialists in the fields of sociology, psychology, and law. The data were extracted and analyzed through qualitative content analysis and statistical review of the findings of previous studies. The findings showed that the consequences of women's presence in stadiums can be categorized into four psychological, social, cultural, and political areas, including; increasing women's sense of security and satisfaction, improving social attitudes, and strengthening women's participation in public arenas. Obstacles and challenges to women's presence in stadiums include political obstacles (such as legal restrictions), security (physical and psychological insecurity), cultural (social resistance and traditional norms), and infrastructural (lack of appropriate facilities).
