Abstract

The expansion of the tourism industry depends on multiple factors, one of the most important being the support of the local community. In other words, the support from the local community, including both formal and informal hosts, plays a significant role in advancing and sustainably developing the tourism industry in tourist destinations. Business owners are one of the important groups within the local community, and their support is crucial for the development of the tourism industry. Assessing the level of support from this group for tourism development and the factors influencing it can assist policymakers and planners in better advancing tourism development programs at the destination. Thus, this research aims to evaluate the state of support from business owners for tourism development at the destination while exploring and studying the factors affecting their support for the tourism industry in Qom province from the perspective of experts. For this purpose, qualitative methods and semi-structured interviews were utilized. Content analysis and the Atlas TI qualitative data analysis software were also employed to analyze the research findings. The findings indicate that the support from business owners for tourism development in the province is unbalanced and insufficient. The factors influencing the support from business owners for the tourism industry at the destination can be organized into categories such as occupational identity, spatial identity, the extent and form of participation in tourism-related matters, and the level of benefit from tourism, among others.
